It seems like Amherst tends to have a lot of OUI arrests. Is it just something I've noticed this year or has it always been that way. Its a given it would be high due to the number of college student s in the area, but it seems to be a steady pace.. are there any stats as to OUI arrest compared to other communities, or is there some sort of state "aaverage"? Just curious.
Thanks for your comment. Enforcing the OUI laws have always been a priority in this Department. However, within the last 5 years we have finally seen our staffing levels at night allow us to assign personnel to motor vehicle enforcement. While we haven't officially compared our OUI arrests to another similiar agency, unoffically, I would say that we are much more proactive that many. For the last several years our agency and individual officers have received awards from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)for our aggressive stance on OUI violations. In fiscal year 2006/105 arrests; fiscal year 2007/145 arrests; fiscal year 2008/126 arrests; so far this fiscal year, 89 arrests.
Thanks, Lt. J. Gundersen
