The Amherst Police Department is requesting the community's help in stopping a rash of recent break-ins to homes and vehicles. Over the past month, we have made arrests for some of the incidents, but it is evident that more offenders are victimizing our residents. Community members are strongly encouraged to report any suspicious activity that occurs in their neighborhoods. In several of the house breaks, the suspect(s) gained entry through either windows or rear doors. It is likely that this activity was witnessed by neighbors. Instead of dismissing something suspicious at your neighbor’s house, please call us so we can investigate. We need your help to address this problem!
During the Thanksgiving weekend, Amherst Officers responded to several reports of breaking and entering including 6 homes, 2 vehicles and 1 business. The homes/apartments broken into are on Hobart Lane, East Pleasant Street, South East Street, College Street and North Pleasant Street. Both vehicles that were broken into were parked near Brandywine Apartments. The one business is located on Harkness Road. Overall arrest activity was fairly slow with only two persons arrested for criminal offenses and an additional four being summonsed into court.
