Seat Belt Enforcement
Over the next two weeks, the Amherst Police Department will have extra patrol officers on-duty to help enforce the Massachusetts seat belt laws. The program is funded by the Executive Office of Public Safety Community Policing Grant. One of our department's priorities is to educate the public about the importance, and legal requirement, of wearing a seat belt, and Amherst Police Chief Charles L. Scherpa has directed officers to be especially diligent when educating the community about the requirements for child passenger safety seats. Questions about this program can be forwarded to either Officer Todd Lang at langt@amherstma.gov or Sergeant Bill Menard at menardw@amherstma.gov.
